About the Campus Grants Program

Nearly $300,000 is distributed annually to UM-Dearborn faculty, lecturers, and students through the Campus Grants Program in support of research and other scholarly activities that further the campus research environment and research experiences for students.

  • Faculty applicants (except LEOs) MUST have a current disclosure of outside financial interests in M-Inform and applicable PEERRS certifications. Applications without current disclosure will be returned without review.

InfoReady: New Application System for Campus Grants

InfoReady now allows applicants to complete and submit their proposals online, eliminating the need to obtain hand-written signatures from your Department and Dean's Office. All of the information needed to complete your proposal is available on the site.

Instructions for how to log in, update your profile, and submit a proposal will assist you with using the system. Additionally, reviewer instructions will guide Chairs, Deans, and Faculty Advisors through the approval process.

    • The system will only accept applications until 5:00 pm on the stated program deadline

    • Complete proposals will be electronically routed to for Faculty Advisor, Chair, and Dean approval by ORSP (as required) 

    • You must log in as a UMich User and authenticate

    • You must update your profile and Add Primary Organization to be eligible to submit a proposal

    • PDFs and paper applications will no longer be accepted

Grants for Students

  • Deadlines

    Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

    Purpose

    Graduate Student Independent Research Grants provide $2,500 for independent research projects conducted by UM-Dearborn graduate students. The proposed project must be part of a course for credit and supervised by a faculty member.

    Eligibility

    • Applicant must be an enrolled student pursuing a degree at UM-Dearborn

    • Proposed project must satisfy course requirement

    Purpose

    Up to $300 for travel-related expenses and/or $40 for presentation materials per student toward costs of traveling to regional and national professional meetings to present papers based on research conducted at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Applications will be routed for faculty advisor approval by ORSP.

    Eligibility

    • Must be a current UM-Dearborn student at the time of application

    • Student can only receive one grant for travel ($300) and one for presentation materials ($40) per fiscal year (July 1st - June 30th)
    • A complete application must be accepted by ORSP 21 days prior to date of travel

    Purpose

    Undergraduate Research Fellowships provide up to 3 awards each funding cycle in the amount of $2,750 each to hire a student to assist full-time UM-Dearborn faculty members with work on summer research and scholarly projects not counting towards academic credit. Students must devote 320 hours to the project in the summer semester.

    Eligibility

    • Proposal must be written by an enrolled undergraduate student pursuing a degree at UM-Dearborn

    • Advisor must be tenured or tenure-track faculty of UM-Dearborn

    Purpose

Grants for Faculty

    Purpose

    The College of Arts, Sciences and Letters and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs provides 2 awards annually of up to $7,000 each for projects that lead to a tangible scholarly outcome.

    Eligibility

    Applicant must have their primary (tenured or tenure‐track) appointment in CASL.

    Purpose

    The College of Arts, Sciences and Letters and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs provides 2 awards (one to an associate professor and one to a full professor) annually for one course release for projects that lead to a tangible scholarly outcome. The award consists of a 3‐ or 4‐credit course release (Fall or Winter term) OR $3,500 to be used in the summer for project expenses.

    Eligibility

    Applicants must be Associate or Full Professors with a primary (tenured) appointment in CASL.

    Purpose 

    Educational Enhancement Grants provides up to 2 awards in the amount of $1,500 each to enable faculty members to enhance the educational experiences of students through course and curriculum enhancement or investment in course materials.

    Eligibility

    Applicant must be a member of the tenured or tenure-track faculty of UM-Dearborn , or a UM-Dearborn faculty member covered by the LEO collective bargaining agreement as defined in Article XXIV

    Purpose

    The Environmental Interpretive Center and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs provide one award of up to $12,000 to full-time UM-Dearborn faculty members for projects related to sustainability, conservation, and/or environmental education, that build upon previous Campus Grants or other grant support and lead to a tangible scholarly outcome or external funding.

    Eligibility

    • Applicant must be a member of the tenured or tenure-track faculty of UM-Dearborn with an EIC Faculty Associate appointment

      • EIC affiliation not required of additional team members

    • Applicant must not have been awarded an EIC Environmental-Sustainability Research Grant within the previous 3 years

    Purpose

    The purpose of these funds is to enhance professional growth of UM-Dearborn tenured and tenure-track faculty. Professional development activities include, but are not limited to, Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) courses, workshops, seminars, and travel to professional conferences.

    • The applicant must be a member of the tenured or tenure-track faculty of UM-Dearborn

    Purpose 

    The program provides up to $750 in support to faculty for domestic travel, hotel, and per diem to discuss a proposal or concept with a sponsor's program officer. These awards may be used to supplement funds available from the department, school, or college for this purpose.

    Purpose  

    Faculty Research Mini Grants provide up to $800 for non-salary resources that enable faculty research and other scholarly activities.

    Purpose 

    Full-time faculty are eligible for up to $300 per year for peer-reviewed scholarly publication costs (not open access journal), limited to:

    • Journal page charges (including surcharges for graphics)

    • Book publication charges

    • Article reprints (hardcopy or electronic) of your publication

    • Conference poster and presentation printing costs

    • Acceptance of publication or conference presentation required

    Purpose

    Research Assistant Grants are funded to hire a student to assist full-time UM-Dearborn faculty members with work on research and scholarly projects. The program provides two levels of support:

    • $750 for work leading to a scholarly product (data, book chapter, publication, etc.)

    • $1,500 requires that a related proposal for external funding will be submitted within one year

    • Applicant must be a member of the tenured or tenure-track faculty of UM-Dearborn

    • Research assistant must be an enrolled student pursuing a degree at UM-Dearborn

    Deadlines

    Purpose

    Research Initiation and Development Grants provide financial support for research projects. This program supports projects designed to lead to a proposal for external funding with a strong potential of being awarded.

    • Initiation - Up to $6,000 (up to 3 awarded each cycle) for seed funding of new research projects (these grants are intended for junior faculty, or senior faculty starting on a new line of inquiry)

    • Development - Up to $15,000 (1 possible award each cycle) to support existing research projects that are one step beyond start-up or feasibility studies

    • Applicant must be a member of the tenured or tenure-track faculty of UM-Dearborn

    • Level I - Senior faculty (full or associate professor) applicants, proposed research must be a new line of inquiry

    • Level II - Applicants must have been awarded a Campus Grant or other seed funding in the past 3 years and demonstrate progress with those funds

    Purpose

    UM-Dearborn Scholars grants are intended to support research and scholarship,including creative activities in the arts. This program is primarily for projects with funding needs not addressed by other support programs within or outside the University.

    • Level I - Provides up to $6,000 (up to 4 awarded each cycle) for support and maintenance of existing activities

    • Level II - Provides up to $15,000 (up to 2 awarded each cycle) to assist in establishing a new program (these grants are intended for junior faculty, or senior faculty starting on a new line of inquiry)

    Eligibility

    • Applicant must be a member of the tenured or tenure-track faculty of UM-Dearborn

    • Level II - if applicant is senior faculty (full or associate professor), proposed research must be a new line of inquiry

    Purpose 

    Up to $300 per person are provided to cover some of the costs of traveling to professional meetings to present papers based on research conducted at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

    Eligibility

    UM-Dearborn part-time faculty members who are presenting a paper at a conference are eligible to apply.  Because of limited funds, individuals who receive these funds will be eligible for only one travel grant per year.
