Politics, Policy and Law Internship
By participating in the Politics, Policy and Law Internship, students gain valuable hands-on work and leadership training, plus a unique look at work life.
We’ll find you a professional experience that is tailored to fit you and your goals in life.
You’ll do real work – conducting research, writing correspondence, helping solve problems, and we will connect you to a network of professionals. Our program is designed to provide you guidance and support that you need to be successful at your internship.
Eligibility:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate at an accredited college or university.
- Maintain a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Program Components
You will be interning at least two days per week at your placement site, however you can intern additional hours with approval. We will work with you to find the best placement offer and connect you with sites that fit your skills, interests and your future goals for a career.
The four credit internship class (POL 495) is a pass/fail course in which you receive credit for completing 160 hours at your placement site. This will enable you to be on the job enough to do meaningful work and to be a part of the team, contributing and gaining new skills. You will work out with your supervisor what hours and days work best for you and for him/her.
Most of our students decide to intern two days per week, and either go to school or continue working at their job two days per week.
We provide a scholarship to our interns to assist them covering the costs of six credits tuition. In addition, we have two scholarships that can help you that are available only to UM-Dearborn interns.
