About Distance Learning Network
Distance Learning Network Overview

The College of Engineering and Computer Science's Distance Learning Network (DLN) allows students to coordinate education with the demands and priorities of their personal and professional lives.  All CECS graduate programs and many graduate certificate programs can be completed on-campus or online.  CECS DLN courses are offered asynchronously online, providing the flexibility that students require.  Online courses offer the same quality and academic rigor of campus based courses.  Students who complete degree requirements online are conferred the same academic degrees as students who attend courses on campus.

Each online course has a companion, campus-based course and both sections are taught by the same instructor.  On-campus course lectures are captured and posted to course sites in Canvas, the campus learning management system.  Online students are assigned the same course work and examinations (which may require proctoring) and must meet designated deadlines and due dates.  Students can interact with the instructor and other students via chat, email, discussion boards, and web-based presentation tools.

No regular on-campus attendance is required, but many courses do require proctoring of examinations, either on-campus or with a pre-approved proctor at an alternate location.

The University of Michigan-Dearborn is fully accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.  All CECS Distance Learning Network programs have been reviewed and approved by the University of Michigan, Rackham School of Graduate Studies.
