Bright Futures offers academic support, as well as a variety of enrichment opportunities for students. Minneapolis Community Education - Hiring City of Lakes AmeriCorps Members- 04-09-15

City of Lakes AmeriCorps members serve full time at one of eight middle schools within Minneapolis Public Schools. Members provide daily academic English instruction and in-class academic coaching to a caseload of 6 Long Term English Learners during the school day and partner with the school’s existing after school enrichment program to develop and lead engaging classes that are open to all students. City of Lakes Members collaborate with ESL and classroom teachers to support students’ language and academic development and communicate regularly with families to report on their student’s progress. Members serve as a cohort of emerging professionals and work together to develop and lead high-quality enrichment classes and facilitate quarterly family engagement events.

All City of Lakes AmeriCorps members participate in intensive pre- and early-service training on tutoring strategies, youth development, and collaborating effectively in a school setting. Subsequent twice-monthly professional development is provided, focused on education and social justice related topics.

City of Lakes AmeriCorps members received a yearly living allowance of $12,530, health insurance coverage, student loan forbearance, and an education award of $5,730 upon successful completion of the one year service term.

Michigan College Access Network- Hiring Recent College Graduates - 03-30-15

Recent graduates from the partner universities will serve as advisers in selected high schools across Michigan, particularly those that are located in communities with low college-going rates and low adult educational attainment rates. Working alongside high school counselors and other school professionals, AdviseMI Members (Advisers) will support students as they make the transition from high school to a post secondary education institution. Advisers work full time and focus on mentoring students (especially those from low-income backgrounds) through the complex steps toward college enrollment. Advisers will provide students and their families with relevant information regarding the benefits of a post secondary education, preparing for college attendance, and the admission and financial aid processes.
