Cardinal Scholars Hiring In-Home and Online Tutors - Michigan - 10/31-14

Cardinal Scholars is an in-home and online tutoring service that gives exceptional tutors the chance to be matched with local students in need of additional academic support. We connect tutors with students seeking help with college, high school, middle school and elementary material.

We're seeking tutors who meet the following criteria:

  • Are fantastic teachers and have experience teaching others.

  • Are academically curious and intelligent.

  • Attend or have graduated from University of Michigan as either an undergraduate, graduate, or professional student.

The benefits of becoming a tutor with us include:

  • Freedom to set your own schedule (no set hourly requirement; we expect you to be taking classes yourself!).

  • Competitive compensation ranging from $15 - $35 per hour.

  • Get to know great families from the community who will really appreciate your help.

  • We connect tutors with students all over the U.S. and online for sessions so you can tutor in your hometown during breaks, and in your college town during the school year!

Coming on board as a tutor is not a guarantee of immediate tutoring work, but offers the opportunity to be considered for an assignment if we receive a tutoring request in your area for in person tutoring and/or around the country for online tutoring.

Hiring to fill multiple openings for two different roles:

Student Program Instructors (SPIs) and Activity Specialists.

Descriptions below:

Student Program Instructors (SPIs):

In cooperation with the Site Coordintor and Assistant Site Coordinator, the SPIs work with K-12 students supervising academic and personal enrichment activities in an afterschool setting.  SPIs will provide homework help, tutoring, and will lead group activities ranging from arts and crafts, creative writing, cooking, music, sports, etc.  SPIs work 3 hours/day in the afternoon on Monday-Thursday for 12 hours/week.  Pay rate is $8-10/hour, depending on location and experience.  We ask SPIs to commit to working an entire school year (mid-September to mid-May) For more information about the program, visit http://emubrightfutures.<wbr></wbr>org/index.html

Activity Specialists:

Activity Specialists work with K-12 students to lead group activities or clubs in an afterschool setting.  Activity Specialists are needed to lead activities or clubs in a variety of different areas ranging from cooking, music, sports, art, technology, etc.  Activity Specialists are contracted for 1-2 hour/week for an 8 week session; if your specialty is particularly unique or popular among students, you may be hired by more than one location to increase your hours.  (For instance, one elementary school may want to hire you to lead karate every Tuesday for 8 weeks, a second elementary school may want to hire you for Thursdays during the same 8 weeks, and a middle school may want to hire you for Thursdays in the following 8 week session.)  Depending on how many locations want to hire you you can work/earn as much or as little as you'd like; because you are only asked to commit to 8 weeks at a time, this is great for individuals with fluctuating schedules.  Pay rate is negotiable based on how unique/popular your specialty is; maximum rate is $25/hour.  For more information about the program, visit http://emubrightfutures.<wbr></wbr>org/index.html

If interested in either position, please contact Nicaté Ferrill at nferrill@emich.edu (include "job opening" in subject line). Complete interest form attached here to learn more about what you'd like to do and where.
