Fire

To protect yourself, it is important to understand the basic characteristics of fire. Fire spreads quickly. In just two minutes, a fire can become life-threatening and within five minutes, a residence can be engulfed in flames. Therefore, it is important to respond to each fire alarm as if it were real. It is as equally as important to plan ahead. Knowing where the closest pull stations and fire extinguishers are and where your assembly location is, will ensure a faster response under an emergency situation.

Respond

1. Call 9-1-1, if it is safe to do so.
2. Sound the fire alarm immediately (if not already sounding) by activating the nearest pull station.
3. If trained, individuals may attempt to use a portable fire extinguisher.
4. Immediately evacuate the building - go to the designated assembly location.
5. Begin to account for evacuated occupants; report any missing persons to emergency officials as soon as possible.
6. Do not re-enter the building until emergency officials provide the All Clear.

Remember P.A.S.S.:

1. Pull safety pin from the handle.
2. Aim at the base of the fire.
3. Squeeze the trigger handle.
4. Sweep from side to side at the base.
