Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance.

Often when considering office ergonomics, furniture comes to mind. While sometimes new furniture may be the solution, more frequently, there  is a lower cost solution to the ergonomic issues you may be facing. Simple adjustments of your current desk, chair, lighting or accessories while keeping simple ergonomic principles in mind may give you the desired result. This will increase your comfort in the work space and decrease the possibility of office injuries due to awkward postures and repetitive tasks. Supporting the body properly will provide maximum comfort and higher productivity.

If you have a preventative request, review the University ergonomic website. If you are still in need of further assistance, request an Ergonomic evaluation.  Facilities Planning will work with you if your furniture layout needs to be adjusted or orders need to be completed.
