Christopher Tremblay to lead admissions efforts at UM-Dearborn
January 13, 2006
DEARBORN / Jan. 13, 2006---Christopher W. Tremblay has been appointed director of undergraduate admissions and orientation at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Tremblay joined UM-Dearborn last month, after serving for three years as director of admissions at Gannon University, a Catholic university in Erie, Pa. In that role, he supervised 18 full-time staff members and managed a multi-million dollar budget while launching a high school dual-enrollment program, implementing on-site admissions and developing a territory management model.
Tremblay also was instrumental in leading the redesign of Gannon University's award-winning Web site, and plans to work closely with Cathy Staples, director of marketing at UM-Dearborn, to enhance the Web presence of UM-Dearborn's admissions office.
"Enrollment growth is one of the key goals for our campus, and it is central to our mission of providing this region with the human capital it will need to prosper in the future," according to Stanley Henderson, vice chancellor for enrollment management and student life at UM-Dearborn. "I believe that Christopher Tremblay's skills and proven experience directing a complex admissions operation uniquely qualify him to an outstanding director of admissions and orientation at UM-Dearborn. Nancy Wrobel, and her excellent search committee, should be congratulated for their work in identifying Christopher."
Recruitment, technology and operations are the three main areas Tremblay will focus his attention on as he steps into his leadership role in admissions.
"Recruitment is how we reach out to future students, technology is critical to enhancing our outreach and the operations process is how that is accomplished," he said. "I want to make this the best admissions office in the United States. "The staff has maintained a very good foundation and I am ready to take it to the next level."
Tremblay got his start in admissions more than 10 years ago as an admissions counselor at Western Michigan University. He worked his way up the ranks in that office, serving as assistant director of admissions and later as coordinator of orientation, where he organized orientation sessions for nearly 10,000 students annually and recruited freshman and transfer students from high schools and community colleges in two counties, including western Wayne County.
He earned a bachelor's degree in public relations and a master's degree in organizational communication at Western Michigan University.
In his time at Gannon and Western Michigan, Tremblay served on numerous university committees. He also holds membership in several professional organizations, including the National Association for College Admission Counseling and the Michigan Association for College Admission Counseling.
Tremblay knows the importance of maximizing recruiting opportunities. When he hits the road to recruit new students, he'll be armed with more than admissions publications. His new Michigan license plate, featuring the University of Michigan-Dearborn seal, will have the word "APPLY" on it.
