UM-Dearborn’s Greek Leadership Council to raise funds for and awareness of Special Olympics during the annual Greek Week March 24 through March 29

DEARBORN / March 21, 2008---The University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Greek Leadership Council has partnered with Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI) to raise funds and awareness during the annual Greek Week competition March 24 through March 29.
Greek students will be joined by SOMI athletes in a variety of events from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, March 24 in the field area behind the University Center. Activities will include an opening ceremony, pyramid race, hula hoops and an egg toss.
Events for Monday, March 24:
11 a.m. - Opening Ceremony (UC Stage)
11:30 a.m. - Pyramid Race (Grass area between UC and SB)
Noon - Hula Hoop (Grass area between UC and SB)
1 p.m. - Egg Toss (Cement area near rock)
2 p.m. - Bench Off (Fieldhouse)
5 p.m. - Women’s G.R.E.E.K. (Fieldhouse)
On Friday, March 28, the groups will host a “Mock Rock” performance at 8 p.m. inside Kochoff Hall. Admission to the performance is $5, with all proceeds benefiting SOMI.
UM-Dearborn Greek organizations also will sell Special Olympics icons across campus and participate in “Penny Wars” against fellow Greek organizations.
SOMI is a non-profit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. More than 16,000 athletes participate in the life-changing programs of SOMI.
