Prof. Urbaczewski appointed chair of Department of Management Studies at UM-Dearborn School of Management

DEARBORN / Jan. 24, 2007---Andrew Urbaczewski, associate professor of management information systems at the University of Michigan-Dearborn School of Management, has been named chair of the school’s Department of Management Studies.

Urbaczewski’s appointment, effective Jan. 1 through the end of 2009, was approved by the U-M Regents at their January meeting in Ann Arbor.

“Professor Urbaczewski is a scholar who has consistently excelled in his research activities, and he also is a strong teacher,” according to Bruce Bublitz, dean of the UM-Dearborn School of Management. “He also is active in service to his profession and to the school, where he has developed a reputation as an outstanding leader.”

Urbaczewski joined the UM-Dearborn faculty as assistant professor in 2003 and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2006. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance at the University of Tennessee in 1991, a master’s of business administration degree from West Virginia University in 1992 and a Ph.D. in management information systems from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in 2000.

Before joining the UM-Dearborn faculty, he served as a visiting professor at the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration and as assistant professor at Washington State University, where he received the “Professor of the Year” award for 2002-2003 from the WSU MIS Club.

Urbaczewski’s research focuses on the areas of electronic commerce and Internet privacy and security. He has published in top-tier academic journals including the Journal of Management Information Systems, the Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, and Communications of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery).
