UM-Dearborn School of Management to help small-business owners attract new employees at job fair tailored specifically to their needs

DEARBORN / March 5, 2009---Small-business owners can get a break attracting new employees at a job fair tailored to their unique situations, being organized by the School of Management at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
The job fair will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 25 at UM-Dearborn’s Fairlane Center, 19000 Hubbard Dr.
“We know that small business owners have different needs and fewer resources than larger companies,” according to Mike Callahan, career services director at the UM-Dearborn school. “Our inaugural Small Business Job Fair is set up to provide them, free of charge, with the same type of environment that traditional job fairs employ.”
Callahan notes that the school has been working to encourage students to be open to a variety of employment opportunities that suit smaller businesses, including regular employment, internships, full- and part-time arrangements, “and even short term non-paid assignments for the right opportunity.”
They are also working to adapt the recruiting process to accommodate small business owners, including providing interviewing facilities and scheduling this program for after the normal work day.
“What’s the bottom-line value to a small business owner?” Callahan said. “We’re trying to help them fill employment needs with highly talented individuals, save time and money, and develop a variety of options to choose from to meet their hiring needs.”
Small business owners who would like to know more about the job fair or other opportunities to work with professional staff at UM-Dearborn who will work with them in finding talented employees should contact Callahan at 313-593-5422.
