DEARBORN / Sept. 14, 2007---The Women’s Resource Center at the University of Michigan-Dearborn will host “Take Back the Night,” a rally and march for awareness of violence against women, beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 on the University Center stage.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is co-sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center, First Step and UM-Dearborn’s Women’s and Gender Studies program along with UM-Dearborn’s Women in Leadership and Learning program and YWCA of Western Wayne County.

“Take Back the Night” will include a rally and march through campus to symbolically reclaim the streets, according to Shareia Carter, WRC program coordinator. The event will conclude with survivors of domestic violence telling their stories.

“ ‘Take Back the Night’ at UM-Dearborn serves to highlight the important work that is done throughout the community to empower survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault as well as a reminder of the work yet to be done to stop violence against women,” Carter said.
