Westland resident Jeanette Schumacher was named Distinguished Alumna of the Year by the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a ceremony this spring.

DEARBORN / July 24, 2009---Westland resident Jeanette Schumacher was named Distinguished Alumna of the Year by the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a ceremony this spring.
Schumacher earned her UM-Dearborn degree in 1969, and began her service to the university as a volunteer member of the campusís Alumni Society board of governors. She was appointed to serve in a volunteer capacity as the first full-time alumni relations director by Chancellor William Jenkins and Robert Forman, executive director of the U-M Alumni Association. In 1987, Schumacher was hired as the permanent alumni relations director, serving in that role until her retirement in January of this year.
Her accomplishments include becoming the first female president of the U-M Club of Greater Detroit, the universityís oldest alumni club. She also received the clubís Distinguished Service Award in 2008. Schumacher also served as vice president and treasurer of the Michigan Advancement Council; a member of the Exchange Club of Dearborn; and a member of the Westland and Michigan Jaycees.
