UM-Dearborn to host 'College Goal Sunday' on Feb. 12

January 26, 2006

DEARBORN / Jan. 26, 2006---Families with children who are seeking to enter a Michigan college can receive help completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) college financial aid forms at the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Sunday, Feb. 12.

The event, called College Goal Sunday, will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the University Center's Kochoff Hall.

"This event is for all students who are planning to enter college, not only for those planning to attend UM-Dearborn," said John Mason, director of financial aid at UM-Dearborn. "We want people to know that a college education is affordable. That's the real goal of this event."

Staff members from UM-Dearborn's Office of Financial Aid will join representatives from Henry Ford Community College and Wayne State University to help students and their families complete the FAFSA forms. Those planning to attend are encouraged to register for the event at

The FAFSA form provided at the event is the primary ticket for determining most loans, grants and other aid nationwide. To fill it in, parents or students should bring their family's most recent tax return, if possible, and their W-2 forms and other income records. Students younger than 23 years old are encouraged to attend with a parent or guardian.

College Goal Sunday, which began in Indiana in 1989 and now runs in 23 states, will serve 22 Michigan communities this year. Primary funding is provided by the Lumina Foundation for Education and the Michigan Guaranty Agency.
