Author Herb Boyd to present "We Shall Overcome: The Civil Rights Movement--Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" on campus
DEARBORN---Author Herb Boyd will present "We Shall Overcome: The
Civil Rights Movement--Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" at 6:10 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 19 in Room 1030 of the College of Arts, Sciences, and
Letters Building on the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus.
The presentation, which is free and open to the public, is part of the
University's annual Martin Luther King
Jr. activities, which commemorate the achievements of the late civil
Boyd is the author of We Shall Overcome: The History of the Civil
Rights Movement As It Happened. He also is the author of Race and
Resistance: African Americans in the 21st Century, The Harlem Reader
and the forthcoming Sugar in Harlem, a biography of Sugar Ray Robinson.
He is the national editor of the Black World Today, a leading
online publication. In 1999, Boyd won three first place awards from the
New York Association of Black Journalists for his articles published in
the Amsterdam News.
Boyd's talk is co-sponsored by the University's MLK 2005 Committee and
the African and African American
Studies Program at UM-Dearborn.
