UM-Dearborn honors Livonia resident for outstanding academic achievement

DEARBORN---Livonia resident Andrea Lechowicz received the Chancellor's Medallion for outstanding academic achievement at the University of Michigan-Dearborn's May commencement exercises. The University presents the award to five graduates at each commencement.

Graduating with high distinction, Lechowicz simultaneously earned bachelor of science and master of science degrees in industrial and systems engineering. Her academic awards include the James B. Angell Scholar award, the Chrysler Scholarship, the Irv Otis Award from the Detroit Chapter of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, an Alumni Merit Scholarship, and class and university honors. She also made the dean's list six times.

Lechowicz was the president of the campus chapter of Alpha Pi Mu, the national industrial and systems engineering honor society, a member of the Society of Women Engineers, the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the American Polish Engineering Association.

Lechowicz spent two years as an intern at Ford Motor Company, first in diagnostic service planning and then in engineering services. She has accepted a job at Ford and will be participating in the Ford College Graduate program, which gives employees the opportunity to work in a variety of departments. Lechowicz will begin her rotation in engineering services for the Ford Customer Service Division.
