Response to recent remarks by U-M Regent (March 29, 2021)

Domenico Grasso, Chancellor's remarks: "Raising the spectre of potential violence against the governor, members of Congress, and other elected officials while perpetuating misogyny cannot and will not be tolerated on our campus. Whether acting in an official capacity, or not, university leaders have the responsibility to positively represent our values and community."
Quote from Chancellor's statement

The recent remarks by U-M Regent Weiser directly contravened our values at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I, and other UM-Dearborn senior leaders, join with President Schlissel and U-M academic leaders in their condemnation of those comments. As a representative of the university, the comments by Regent Weiser undermined what we as a community hold dear — mutual respect and support, care, equity, and inclusion.

Regents at the University of Michigan are publicly elected on a statewide ballot. Raising the spectre of potential violence against the governor, members of Congress, and other elected officials while perpetuating misogyny cannot and will not be tolerated on our campus. Whether acting in an official capacity, or not, university leaders have the responsibility to positively represent our values and community. At UM-Dearborn we believe everyone should be treated with respect and dignity.
