Dear Students and Colleagues,
It is with great excitement that I welcome you to the new academic year!
Reflecting on my first year as Chancellor, it is clear that you, like me, are deeply proud of what we do every day here at University of Michigan-Dearborn. That pride came through as my wife, Susan, and I welcomed many of you into our home for special events — learning all about your academic achievements, the challenges you face and your dreams for the future. We heard it again as we attended numerous sporting events at the Fieldhouse — with fans and athletes loudly reminding us how we are all part of the Wolverine Nation. We also saw it in research labs and classrooms across campus, where you work alongside our talented and dedicated faculty to find solutions to society’s pressing concerns.
There is indeed plenty to be proud of at UM-Dearborn: our high-quality Michigan education; outstanding faculty; diverse learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom; our connection to an accomplished Michigan alumni base of almost 600,000 people around the world; and a beautiful campus that is rich in diversity and active student organizations.
Our love of UM-Dearborn is something I see daily. As you approach the new academic year, I want to encourage us all to share our love for and pride in this special place with the world around us:
This year, you will be given a UM-Dearborn sticker for your car; I encourage you to place it proudly on your vehicle.
- During our Homecoming celebration, scheduled for the week of September 30, invite family and friends to the special events honoring UM-Dearborn's 60th anniversary.
- Share and participate in our new tradition with the Block M outside of the University Center.
- As we continue our campus-wide strategic planning, share your ideas so that future generations of students can have a UM-Dearborn experience that is as rich as yours.
Best of luck for a great semester full of learning, discovery, dialogue, engagement and community. UM-Dearborn is a special and wonderful place to call home. Share your pride!
Go Big - Go Blue - Go Dearborn!
