For over 15 years, Latresa has counseled, inspired and empowered youth to overcome barriers that they face in life. Some of those barriers include financial barriers to college success, social barriers to developing strategic relationships, and behavioral barriers that have caused them to frequently miss opportunities to acquire their dreams. Since February of 2018, Latresa has been the Assistant Director of Upward Bound Math & Science program: the dynamic program that helps high school students who are considered low income, first generation, and academically at risk, graduate from both high school and postsecondary education

Willis Peavy has over 30 years experience working and providing guidance to youth through various programs. Over the years, he has gained the respect of his co-workers as well as the youth he worked with. In his recent work with Public Allies of Metro Detroit, through the University of Michigan –Dearborn Office of Metropolitan Impact, he served as Training Manager which allowed him theopportunity to further form relationships and provide meaningful guidance to participants.
Mr. Peavy has a Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Industrial Relations from Wayne State University.
Tiffany is the Outreach Specialist at Robichaud High School. For the past 2 years, Tiffany has served as a College Adviser through Michigan College Advising Corps. She has helped to provide college access resources and assist high school students with college applications, scholarships, financial aid, and other general inquiries. Tiffany holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies, bullet journaling, and spending time with loved ones.
Rachel Leonard currently serves as the Advisor for Student Support Services within the TRIO Department at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. As a graduate of UM-Dearborn in 2018, Rachel was the first in her family to earn a Bachelor's degree. Through her student involvement at UM-Dearborn, Rachel served in several leadership roles and as a student athlete. Outside of work, Rachel loves to improve her photography skills, work in the garden, or ride her longboard
Parent Liaison, Program Assistant
Larry is a Gear-Up representative and a student advisor for the college day program. Larry enjoys working with our students, assisting in field trips, and meeting parents in parent teacher conferences. He is also a weekend golfer and enjoys cooking on the grill with his family.
Laurie graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a BA in Communication. She spent the last six years working at U-M's Mott Hospital as an In-Patient Unit Clerk on the Pediatric Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant floor. Laurie has worked as a free-lance writer for several Arts & Entertainment websites for over 14 years. When she's not writing or working, Laurie likes to spend her time at various live music venues in and around the Detroit area.
Rawan graduated from the University of Michigan - Dearborn with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Philosophy. She will be obtaining her MSW from the University of Michigan School of Social Work. In the future, she hopes to become a School Social Worker so she can educate children and their parents on the importance of mental health. In her free time, she enjoys watching true crime videos on YouTube.
Ghassaq “Gigi” Nassir
Ghassaq is currently an undergrad student at the University of Michigan Dearborn, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She currently assists in the GEAR UP program and her goal after college is to work in academia to help connect with students. In her spare time, Ghassaq loves to paint portraits and create sculptures as she has a deep love for art.
Austin is a tutor for the UM-Dearborn Student Support Services and is currently enrolled as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He hopes to receive a Bachelor's degree majoring in Economics and Minoring in Political Science, so that one day he can become an economic advisor and work with political organizations or campaigns as an economic guide. Austin loves being active and engaging in many activities, like hiking! He hopes to go to every national park in the United States in his lifetime!
Reem is first-gen student majoring in biomedical and mechanical engineering. She is a tutor/mentor in the Student Support Services program and was a co-founder of the First Gen student org. In addition, Reen is the President for the Society of women in engineering, and I am an Engineering Lab instructor. Reem strives to help first-gen students and minorities find their path to success. In Reem's free time, she enjoys socializing with others, reading, and helping others in the best way she can.
Shafeq is an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She currently majors in Mechanical engineering and Bioengineering to pursue her goal of becoming a well known engineer. Shafeq assists in the Gear Up program as a program assistant. During her free times Shafeq likes spending time with her family and friends, her hobbies include playing the piano, cooking, and she also is very active on social media.
Caylinn is an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn majoring in psychology in hopes to become an academic advisor or to enter in the industrial organizational field of psychology. Caylinn is currently assists as a program assistant in the Gear Up program.
Rekha is currently a masters student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn with experience working with an MNC in the area of Data science and computer engineering. Within her major, Rekha's interests include include computer science related courses and Mathematics. Her personal interest includes participating in any kind of research related to the subjects of her interest and guiding/mentoring the students by helping them clear their questions related to their courses. She loves solve problems by having challenging tasks as a part of her day to day responsibilities as being a tutor/mentor.
Alfarezdeq is an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He currently majors in Biochemistry to hopefully become a neurosurgeon in the near future. Alfarezdeq is currently assigned to the Gear Up and College Day programs. On his days where he isn't studying or working, Alfarezdeq spends time with friends, whether it being online via gaming or in real life.
