About Us

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Michigan-Dearborn offers the following degrees and certificates:

• BA or BS in Mathematics
• BA or BS in Applied Statistics
• BA or BS in Actuarial Mathematics
• MS in Applied and Computational Mathematics (ACM)
• Certificate in Mathematics for Finance

We also offer undergraduate minors in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, and Computer and Computational Mathematics.

The degree program in Mathematics offers both classical and applied curriculum, while the Applied Statistics program concentrates on data analysis and empirical research. The Actuarial Mathematics program is interdisciplinary with courses in business, economics, mathematics, and statistics. The ACM program focuses on applications and modeling, and is accessible to students with undergraduate degrees in the sciences, engineering, or mathematics.

In addition to serving students majoring in the above programs, the Department also supports the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) and the College of Education, Health, and Human Services (CEHHS). The Department offers courses to CEHHS students in elementary and secondary education programs. As part of the CEHHS MA in Education program, we offer a specialty in Mathematics Education Enhancement and Leadership.

The research interests of our mathematics and statistics faculty include, but are not limited to:

biomathematics, geometric modeling, inverse problems, numerical analysis, partial differential equations, algebraic geometry, algebraic topology, graph theory, number theory, operator theory and operator algebras, mathematics education, applied statistics, tolerance limits, large scale inference, bootstrap methods, design and analysis of experiments and high dimensional and functional data analysis.
