A Message from the Dean: February 2023

Martin Hershock

I hope that this brief message finds you all well. I write today to celebrate one of our college’s most prized colleagues, Sue Gedert, who is announcing her retirement from the university effective this August.

I have had the tremendous privilege of working alongside her for my 10 years as Dean along with on numerous occasions prior to that. I am certain that there is not a person reading this who has not collaborated with Sue on one project or another—a web page, a newsletter, a flyer, a program for an event, social media, the CASL Undergraduate Research Showcase, Meeting of Minds, the CASL Staff Appreciation Committee, an alumni event, etc., etc., etc.

All sing her praises, all appreciate her infectious smile and love of CASL, and all recognize and hail her incredible work ethic and team spirit. It is truly a bittersweet moment for us all for it is always sad to say farewell to such a steadfast fixture and friend of the college. Farewell, however, need not mean goodbye and thus it is with a full heart that I wish Sue much happiness and joy as she transitions to this new phase of life.

May you find great peace, tranquility, and contentment in your retirement and may you never grow old in spirit. We all wish you the very best. Please know that you will always be welcomed back to CASL with open arms and a warm embrace. Thank you Sue for your 35 years of phenomenal work on behalf of the college and our students!

Sue wanted to leave a legacy to the University, so she and her husband Steve have created an endowed scholarship for CASL students working as student assistants on campus.

Please direct any CASL students who fit the criteria to apply: Susan and Stephen Gedert Scholarship for CASL Student Assistants

For any of you wishing to donate to Sue's scholarship, please follow this link: Donate to the Gedert Scholarship for CASL Student Assistants
