Spotlight on Nikki Wasilius
Enjoy the following Q&A with Nikki Wasilius, Administrative Specialist in CASL's Mathematics and Statistics Department.
CASL Connect: In what way(s) has your work helped you grow professionally?
NW: There is always something new to learn! The opportunity to learn about the extensive processes the university is responsible for is readily available and encouraged. I have learned so much about a very wide knowledge base transitioning from my previous role as accounting clerk to administrative specialist and I am positive there is still more to learn!
CC: Are there any special experiences, etc that you feel make your job unique? or Anything the Math and Stats department does that you feel makes it a unique department?
NW: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has the most kind and caring people I have ever worked with! I have been with the department for about 7 years, I started as the accounting clerk, and it seems like it's been 2 or 3 at the most. I truly could not ask for a better group to work with.
CC: How have you adjusted to your position working from home?
NW: I am very thankful and feel very lucky to be able to work from home during the pandemic, knowing the university cares for their employees so much and are doing their best to keep us safe is very uplifting during such tragic times. The transition was fairly easy; the vast majority of our work today is electronic and housed in the University's systems online. My internet did go out one day and it was rather frustrating to work solely from my smartphone, but other than that it has been fairly smooth, very busy but enjoyable. I am just so happy to still be working and also having the luxury of doing so safely from my home.
CC: What hobbies do you enjoy?
NW: House projects, gardening, walking & playing with my dogs (Moose and Lewie - below), reading, nature trails, swimming (leisurely), skiing, sewing, crocheting, enjoying a nice nap in my hammock!
