Dr. Lan Wang, Professor and Chair of Department of Computer Science at The University of Memphis, visited the CIS Department to discuss potential research collaboration and gave a research seminar on "IoT and Edge Computing in Named Data Network" in the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) on April 6, 2018. The Named Data Networking (NDN, http://named-data.net) project aims to develop a new Internet architecture to better support mobility, security, and data sharing among a large number of devices.  NDN moves away from IP's focus on addresses and locations and instead focuses on retrieving data using names directly.  This project has received over $15 million in funding from NSF since 2010.  In this talk, Dr. Wang first summarized the progress in NDN architectural development.  Then she presented her research team's recent developments in supporting Internet of Things and edge computing in NDN.  She ended her talk with NDN-PS, a public-subscribe system for building management over NDN.
