CIS, ECE faculty recognized for excellence in teaching, research, and service
Four faculty members were honored for the second year of the awards.
Dr. Brahim Medjahed received the Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award. The award was established to recognize faculty who demonstrate sustained excellence in curriculum development, teaching, or advising. Dr. Medjahed is an associate professor of computer and information science whose students and colleagues speak strongly of his dedication to teaching and student success. His contributions were critical to the success of the computer and information science graduate programs. Dr. Medjahed is committed to providing students with innovative, real-world experiences to enhance their education as well as improving access to STEM education for underrepresented K12 students in SE Michigan.
The Faculty Excellence in Research Award was granted to Dr. Marouane Kessentini, an assistant professor of computer and information science, and Dr. Ya Sha Yi, associate professor for electrical and computer engineering. The award was established to recognize faculty who demonstrate excellence in research, scholarly achievements, creative works, or technological innovation that expanded the scope of knowledge in the fields of engineering, computer science, or engineering education. Drs. Kessentini and Yi are both leaders in their respective fields and have made significant contributions to those fields and the college.
Finally, the college recognized Dr. M. Shridhar with the Faculty Excellence in Service Award. This award was established to recognize faculty members who demonstrate sustained excellence through direct involvement with committees, programs, special projects, or student organizations that further the mission of the College and the campus. Dr. Shridhar is currently professor of electrical and computer engineering. He previously served as a department chair and associate provost for academic affairs. Dr. Shridhar has consistently been a leader and role model on campus. Our students, faculty, and staff speak strongly of his thoughtful mentorship and dedication to fostering success within the campus community.
The recipients of these awards will be celebrated at an event to be held in the fall term.
