DEARBORN, MI. - Mr. Rashid Faisal has been selected as this year's College of Education, Health, and Human Services Alumnus of the Year award recipient, in recognition of his significant contributions to his profession, the community and UM-Dearborn through his volunteer efforts.
Mr. Faisal received his Master of Arts in Education in 2005 and is currently a doctoral candidate in the College’s Ed. D program in Metropolitan Education and Leadership.
Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Faisal’s devotion to raising academic achievement for underserved low-income, African American children can be seen through his recent work as a recipient of the U-M Level 1 Bicentennial Grant to implement in innovative teaching strategy to improve the learning outcomes for urban students. This grant resulted in two major accomplishments: the development of a Theory in Action initiative intended to establish a college-going culture for his K through 8th grade students who are predominantly African American and low-income; and, the recognition of Cornelius L. Henderson, a University of Michigan Ann Arbor graduate who as an engineer and architect worked on the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit-Windsor Tunnel who will be inducted to the Wall of Fame at the University of Michigan-Detroit Center on October 20th.
He will be recognized as an Alumni Difference Maker on Thursday, October 26, at the Alumni Awards Ceremony. The ceremony will be held in UM-Dearborn's Fairlane Center South building.
