CEHHS lecturer Jeff Bouwman is named a NASA Solar System Ambassador.

January 14, 2019

Jeff Bouwman, CEHHS lecturer in science, educational technology and STEM is now one of the highly motivated ambassadors across the nation who share the latest science and discoveries of NASA's missions.

UM-Dearborn Lecturer Jeff Bouwman was recently named a Solar System Ambassador by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Solar System Ambassador program consists of volunteers from across the country who work to share information about NASA’s recent missions through various events within their own communities.

Jeff has been an adjunct Science Education Professor in the UM-Dearborn's College of Education, Health, and Human Services (CEHHS) for several years teaching classes in educational technology, science, and STEM.  He is also a middle school science teacher and was recently named the Michigan Science Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Science Teachers Association.  Jeff routinely brings his experiences as a middle school teacher into his undergraduate classes in order to help prepare our preservice teachers for careers in the classroom.

In September 2016, Jeff helped launch the first WeatherSTEM weather station in the state of Michigan - Gibraltar School District WeatherSTEM. Data collected by the weather station is utilized to enhance STEM education, keep the community informed and safe, and is shared with the GLOBE program.

We are excited to see how he incorporates his role as a NASA Solar System Ambassador into his classes here in CEHHS.

Congrats, Jeff!
