The English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement (NS) program provides the breadth and depth of knowledge required to effectively teach students whose first language is not English.

Program coursework is aligned with state and national ESL standards and is designed to meet the needs of students preparing for either elementary or secondary ESL endorsement.

Entry requirements for the ESL Endorsement program include admission into UM-Dearborn's College of Education, Health, and Human Services; TOEFL (500 and above) or native English language proficiency; and demonstrated experience in learning a modern language other than English (to be met prior to admission or upon conclusion of the program and to be approved by the department chair).
