The Reading Specialist Endorsement prepares teachers with the knowledge and skills essential for working with K-12 students who are below grade level in their literacy skills.

The Endorsement prepares teachers through instructional, assessment and/or leadership roles at the classroom, school and/or district levels. The endorsement qualifies the candidate to work as a reading specialist in school districts.

Endorsement Availability

A Reading Specialist endorsement is available through the following College of Education, Health, and Human Services programs. Visit these program pages for degree requirements, course requirements and to apply.

  • M.A. in Education: Earn the Reading Specialist endorsement with a Master of Arts in Education degree.
  • Post-Degree Program: Earn the Reading Specialist endorsement without a master's degree (must already hold a Master of Arts in Education degree).
