2017 Association for Information Systems Competition
The College of Business’s Information Technology Management Association took 16 members to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah to compete and participate in the 2017 Association for Information Systems competitions and conference April 13-15.
Two teams of students from the ITM Association competed in the international competitions, where they utilized analytics, big data, and data visualization to solve problems and present solutions for the healthcare industry.
One team placed 2nd in the Merck Analytics Challenge, which tasked students to find solutions to the worldwide diabetes epidemic. The team was able to use data to predict countries most at risk of diabetes in the future, and identify solutions and strategies to combat diabetes in the upcoming years. The second team placed 3rd in the AmerisourceBergen Analytics competition, which required them to analyze point of sale transaction data to find ways to make smaller independent pharmacies competitive with large pharmacy chains. The team developed an infographic that displayed their analysis and the resulting business recommendations. The team included Andrew Dixon, Anik Ahmed, Tanvir Ahmed, Shivam Patel and Diana Vargas. In addition students also went on company tours, heard from speakers such as VP of Information Delivery at AmerisourceBergen and an Engineer from Snapchat, and participated in various technology and leadership workshops.
