Executive Speaker Series: The 2020 Workforce: Attracting and Retaining Talent

November 30, 2017

Our panel of experts discusses attracting and retaining talent for the workforce of 2020.

An aging workforce, a declining labor participation rate, and automation has forced many employers to get creative in order to attract and retain talent for the workforce of 2020. As of July, Michigan's unemployment rate fell to 3.7%, the lowest it’s been since 2000. Meanwhile the workforce participation rate continues to drop. As low skill level jobs are replaced with automation, the gap for skilled workers continues to grow.

Although companies have attempted to attract younger workers and delay the retirements of skilled workers, the growth of unfilled skilled positions continues to slow the state’s economic growth. How can organizations attract younger employees and motivate experienced employees to extend their careers? What future shortages should organizations plan for now?
