Last month alumni, faculty, staff, and students gathered to commemorate the long history between UM-Dearborn and Ernst & Young (EY).
EY has provided internships to 39 UM-Dearborn students since 1999 and currently employs more than 50 UM-Dearborn alumni, including eight who have become partners at the firm.
Bryan Becker, a member of the College of Business (COB) Board of Advisors and a retired partner at EY, chaired the event committee. As Becker explained, “I wanted to organize an event to recognize the long-standing partnership between EY and UM-Dearborn. We have a lot of alumni who work for EY, and I thought this would be a great way to bring us all together, celebrate our successes, and remember the good times we had at UM-Dearborn.”
Alumni at the event heard from Dean Balakrishnan and Kelly Fitch, a recent graduate who interned at EY and plans to join the firm full-time in early 2018. In addition, Susan Baker, lecturer in accounting, and Tracey Edwards, executive coach at EY, described the creation of the Hillary Q. Kind Memorial Scholarship, a partnership between the College and EY which honors the memory of this COB alumna (’09 BBA) and EY employee. Also in attendance was Dr. Cedric Fricke, professor emeritus of Accounting.
Binders on display at the event allowed UM-Dearborn alumni to look up their names in EY internship records. These records show that the first UM-Dearborn student interned at EY in 1962.
