Dear Class of 2023,

We are looking forward to celebrating with you at commencement on Sunday, April 30. Please find below a few important reminders before you arrive at your ceremony.

Ceremony Times

Sunday, April 30, 2023
  • 9 a.m. –
    • All students receiving a graduate or doctoral degree (all colleges)
  • 1 p.m. –
    • College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters undergraduates
    • College of Education, Health, and Human Services undergraduates
  • 5 p.m. –
    • College of Business undergraduates
    • College of Engineering and Computer Science undergraduates

Each ceremony is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.

All ceremonies will take place inside the Fieldhouse.

You will have your name read as you walk across the stage for public recognition.

Please bring your notecard with your name on it that you received when you picked up your tickets. You are responsible for spelling out your name phonetically, so the announcer reads your name correctly.

If you did not receive a name card yet, you can pick one up when you check in on Sunday.

When should you arrive?

  • Doors open one hour prior to the ceremony start time.
  • Graduates should arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony.
  • All graduates must report to the Graduate Check-in Area located inside the Fieldhouse near the Wellness Center. There will be a sign to direct you.

Extra Tickets

  • Unclaimed tickets will be made available, on a first come first served basis, starting Monday, April 24, at 8 a.m.
  • Unclaimed tickets may be picked up at the One Stop office, located in the University Center (suite number 1145).
    • You will be limited to 2 extra tickets for the 9 a.m. ceremony.
    • You will be limited to 2 extra tickets for the 1 p.m. ceremony.
    • There are no extra tickets for the 5 p.m. ceremony.
  • Tickets will be available until they are gone.
  • One Stop hours:
    • Monday – Wednesday and Friday – 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    • Thursday 8 am – 7 p.m.

Tickets Will Call

If your tickets are in Will Call, they can be picked up in the Wellness Center (located in the Fieldhouse) 45 minutes prior to the ceremony start time. A sign will direct you to the location. Please have ID ready (your Mcard or driver’s license).

Caps and Gowns

If you prepaid for your cap and gown or other graduation regalia and have not yet picked up your items, please do so as soon as possible. If you are unable to pick up your prepaid materials before commencement, please email the bookstore at [email protected] . If you have not yet purchased your cap and gown, or related regalia, please be sure to do so as soon as possible, as the bookstore cannot guarantee size availability the closer we get to commencement. The bookstore is open Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. - 4 pm and Friday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Parking, Extra Assistance

Parking is available in lots on the north side of the Fieldhouse, in lots E5-7. Handicapped parking is available. Shuttle transportation from the parking lot to the Fieldhouse will be available for those in need.

Photographs

Professional photos will be offered at commencement by Grad images. Information about ordering professional photos will be provided at this time. The photographer is an independent contractor.

There will also be photo backdrops set up near the Fieldhouse. We encourage you to take photos at your favorite spots on campus.

Live Streaming

All ceremonies will be live streamed on UM-Dearborn’s Facebook page.

Diplomas

You will not receive your diploma at the ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed to your permanent address or the address listed on the Degree/Diploma Application approximately eight weeks after graduation.
