Updated Mask Policy - Effective March 14, 2022

March 9, 2022

Dear Colleagues and Students, As we transition from the COVID pandemic to the virus becoming endemic in our community,

Dear Colleagues and Students,

As we transition from the COVID pandemic to the virus becoming endemic in our community, national and local agencies have begun issuing relaxed health-related guidance. Based on the latest information and guidelines, as well as consultation with Faculty and Staff Senates, university leadership is revising UM-Dearborn’s masking policy.

Effective March 14, masks will be required only in classrooms, instructional labs, clinic spaces, and while on any UM-Dearborn transportation. This policy will remain in place for the duration of the 2022 winter term.

As of March 14, masks are optional and will be respectfully accommodated for other indoor spaces such as study areas, hallways, library, University Center, Fieldhouse, and faculty and staff offices.

This policy applies to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors to UM-Dearborn.

Although this updated policy is welcomed news, we should remember that masks remain an effective strategy for enhanced personal protection, especially those with compromised immune status, those who are not vaccinated or up to date on their COVID-19 vaccinations/booster, and anyone with a heightened situational risk. It is recommended that everyone continue to carry a mask with them.

Our campus has done an outstanding job complying with policies while considering and respecting the rights and views of individuals on campus. We ask that the same level of thoughtfulness and acceptance continue as we move through this transition. Many of your fellow classmates, professors, and colleagues may continue to wear a mask in optional settings and you may also be asked to mask in small venues such as faculty or staff offices. Please be courteous of those requests.

As a reminder, individuals with an approved exemption from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement are still required to complete weekly COVID-19 testing.

Finally, significant updates are now available on the ResponsiBLUE app, including new statuses to support the University of Michigan’s COVID-19 booster requirement. You can download the new app at responsiblue.umich.edu and through downloads from the Apple and Google app stores.

We will continue to monitor the pandemic/endemic and continue to adjust policies as needed.
