COVID Weekly Update 3/5/21

March 5, 2021

The first week of limited in-person classes this semester has been successful, with no reported issues from students, faculty or staff.

Dear Colleagues,

The first week of limited in-person classes this semester has been successful, with no reported issues from students, faculty or staff. This is good news. As a reminder, you may track campus COVID-related cases on our dashboard; information is updated weekly.

This week the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services updated their epidemic orders. You may review the latest COVID epidemic guidance on the state’s website or view the highlights of the latest orders on their epidemic infographic

One of the major changes permits gatherings of up to 375 people in indoor stadiums or arenas if capacity is under 10,000 people. This change allowed the university to plan for a series of limited, in-person commencement ceremonies in the spring. In making the decision, university leadership carefully reviewed the state guidance, positivity rate trajectories and recent news of increased vaccine production and vaccinations. Our plans include more conservative restrictions than state requirements regarding the number of guests in the Fieldhouse and enhanced safety and cleaning protocols. While we are cautiously optimistic, we are also developing plans to pivot commencement ceremonies should public health conditions warrant.

We will offer additional testing clinics on Wednesday, March 10; Thursday, March 25; and Wednesday, April 7; in the lobby of the Fairlane Center South from 10am - 2pm. Testing is encouraged for those students, faculty, staff and graduate student instructors who are on campus. Participation is voluntary. UM-Dearborn will cover the cost of testing. In order to secure a testing time, it is important to complete the survey and schedule an appointment by calling 734-539-5111, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. If you are sick, do not use this testing service - go to the MDHHS website to find a testing location near you. If you receive a positive COVID-19 test result you are required to follow the university reporting protocol

Enjoy the weekend.
