COVID Weekly Update 6/17/2021

June 17, 2021

Please find below important updates regarding a revised campus face-covering policy, vaccination reporting instructions and other reminders as we prepare for our fall transition semester.

Dear Colleagues,

Please find below important updates regarding a revised campus face-covering policy, vaccination reporting instructions and other reminders as we prepare for our fall transition semester.

Updated Face-covering Policy

Beginning Monday, June 21, 2021, the university will modify its face-covering policy for faculty, staff, students and visitors to campus. Individuals who are fully vaccinated and self-report their status to the university are generally exempt from the indoor masking and social distancing requirements; however, such individuals must still wear a mask in classrooms and on U-M or UM-Dearborn transportation. To qualify for this exemption, faculty, staff, and students must voluntarily report their vaccination status via the website listed below.

Visitors to campus who wish to qualify for this exception must complete the ResponsiBLUE-Guest daily screening process and voluntarily answer the applicable questions about vaccination status.

Face coverings are not required outdoors. You may be mask-free while outdoors when alone or in gatherings of less than 100 people if on campus.

This policy is expected to remain in place through, at least, the end of August.

The ResponsiBLUE daily health screening continues to be required for all students, faculty and staff who access campus buildings. A vaccination record status box is being added to ResponsiBLUE and will be available later this month and details will be shared.

This policy update aligns with the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and meets the COVID-19 requirements of employers as outlined by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Self-reporting Vaccination

Faculty and staff can now voluntarily report their vaccination status via the “U-M COVID-19 Vaccination Self-Report Form.”

Within five business days of submitting their vaccination information, individuals will receive an email alerting them to whether their information was verified and accepted or denied. Employees are encouraged to share their verification email with their supervisors. Common reasons for denied records include no name on the vaccination card, vaccination card was not legible, or missing information.

Students should visit Wolverine Access, search for COVID-19 resources and click on the Report Your COVID-19 Vaccination box to complete this process.

As the university is able to better assess vaccination rates among the U-M community, it may modify future policies that will impact our fall semester transition.

All U-M community self-reported vaccination data will be managed centrally and will be available upon request to unit supervisors for policy compliance and follow-up soon. For the time being, employees are encouraged to share their record verification email with their supervisors to verify they are vaccinated.

Still Need to be Vaccinated?

Vaccinations are readily available through the metro Detroit area. Many places are offering walk-in shots and some local businesses are offering incentives for being fully vaccinated. We encourage you to seek the best venue and schedule your vaccination before the start of the fall semester. Check our vaccine page for more details and please get vaccinated today.

Return to On-campus Work

We anticipate the state of Michigan to further alter or eliminate COVID-related restrictions by July 1. University leadership is closely following the latest guidance from local, state and national agencies and will determine any impact that update guidance has on our plans for the fall transition semester.

As more faculty and staff continue to return to campus it is important to familiarize yourself with these updated policies and continue to watch your email for additional information over the summer.

Specific instruction regarding your return to campus plan will come from supervisors. If you have not yet been informed regarding your on-campus return or your fall work schedule, please contact your supervisor.

We hope you are enjoying the summer.
