Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act Information

The Jeanne Clery Act is a consumer protection law that aims to provide transparency around campus crime policy and statistics.

In order to comply with Clery Act requirements, colleges and universities must understand what the law entails, where their responsibilities lie, and what they can do to actively foster campus safety. The Clery Act requires colleges and universities to report campus crime data, support victims of violence, and publicly outline the policies and procedures they have put into place to improve campus safety.

For additional information on the Clery Act, visit the Clery Center web site, or read The Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting on the Department of Education website.

Annual Security Report

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires colleges and universities to distribute an annual report to all current students and employees and to any prospective students or employees.

The University of Michigan-Dearborn Annual Security Report (ASR) is compiled and published by the UM-Dearborn Department of Public Safety (DPS). This report is published each year by October 1 to meet the requirement of the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 to publish an Annual Security Report.

The report is a source for safety, security and emergency resources for University of Michigan-Dearborn’s students, staff, faculty, visitors and prospective students and employees.

The report provides information about the University of Michigan-Dearborn, policies and procedures for reporting crimes, safety and security prevention and protection programs, victim assistance services, fire safety, and other material to assist in maintaining safety and security.

This report also contains information about crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and on public property within campus boundaries, or immediately adjacent to campus.

The complete Annual Security Report for UM-Dearborn and the official crime statistics section can be viewed by clicking on umdearborn.edu/clery-asr.   This report is also available in paper form and can be obtained by contacting the UM-Dearborn Clery Compliance Coordinator, Celia Robinson at [email protected] or 313-593-5676 or e-mailed to [email protected], or by visiting UM-Dearborn DPS at 1300 Campus Support Services Building, 4901 Evergreen Road, Dearborn, Ml 48128.
