Teaching in a Time of Uncertainty Workshop: Supporting Student Mental Health and Your Own

For:

Wednesday, March 25, 2020
12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m.
Online/Virtual

Participants in the Hub’s first event in the series “Teaching in a Time of Uncertainty,” generated a list of topics relevant to teaching during this uncertain time, including a crisis of political leadership, instability in climate change, and unpredictable job prospects in a gig economy. Faculty expressed a desire to learn how to better support and engage students who are anxious, depressed, stressed, and struggling to manage obstacles to learning such as homelessness, elder care, transportation, and more.  We are pleased, therefore, to announce that the second event in the series will be a workshop led by a member of UM-Dearborn’s Wellness Collaborative. This session will introduce participants to baseline data about our students’ mental health, typical warning signs of mental illness, and some straightforward, direct ways to better engage with students who may be struggling with mental health and risks for suicide.
