Facilities Operations Departments

Business Office:  

This team, under the leadership of Randy Meyer, handles the business functions for the Facilities Operations team.  Responsibilities include purchasing, budget reconciliation, inventory control, accounts payable, and coordination of bidding.  The call center, which serves as the central communication point for facilities related issues throughout the campus, is also part of business office.  Call center staff provide essential support to internal business units and Facilities Operations staff.

Building Services:  

Kevin Headrick leads the building maintenance and custodial services teams.  Our team takes great pride in keeping our buildings clean and orderly. If there is something we have overlooked or something in need of our attention, please let us know.

Environmental Health & Safety:  

Under the leadership of Dave Fogle, this team manages the university’s health and safety program, promotes activities that proactively support the local environment and the health of the Rouge River, and assures regulatory compliance.

Facilities Planning & Construction:  

This team provides programming, design, and construction services for the campus. The planning team is also responsible for master planning, developing UM-Dearborn specific construction standards, space utilization and analysis, interior design, furniture purchases and layouts, wayfinding and signage, moves, Property Disposition, and sustainability.

General Services (Mail Services and Parking Services):  

Bonnie Southerland supervises the general services team which handles mail and delivery services, shipping and receiving, parking permits, and shuttle operations. 

Plant Operations, Grounds & Fleet:  

This team is responsible for ongoing operations on the campus and includes grounds maintenance, skilled trades, boiler operations, and a fleet of 44 vehicles. Our team maintains 227 acres of grass, gardens, and natural areas, 3.5 miles of roads, 10.5 miles of sidewalks, 24 acres of parking lots, and 32 buildings with over 1.6 million square feet of maintainable space.

University Unions & Events:  

Under the leadership of Kris Day, University Unions & Events proudly serves as the heart of the campus community, creating a welcoming, inclusive environment supporting student engagement and development. UUE brings students, faculty, staff, and the community together by providing services and facilities designed for studying, meeting, and dining. The Information Services Center offers university and off-campus guests a central portal for accurate and timely information about campus resources, services, and events. The team provides event planning and gathering spaces to encourage community interactions across campus that build meaningful relationships and memories. Campus-wide events, celebrations, and culinary services are coordinated by these hospitality professionals. University Unions & Events overarching mission is to enhance the student experience and cultivate enduring connections to the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
