They all have their unique hopes and dreams.

Some University of Michigan-Dearborn students want to cure disease, while others aspire to practice law.

As UM-Dearborn’s assistant director of admissions, Melissa Jimenez understands the passion students bring to campus each and every day.

That’s why Jimenez plans to participate in this year’s Faculty & Staff Campaign, which runs March 19 to April 16.

“I believe that it is important for faculty and staff to give because every member here on campus adds to the success of University of Michigan-Dearborn,” said Jimenez, campaign co-chair and UM-Dearborn alumna. “As a campus community, we work hard together every day to make possible the dreams of our students. I feel this is just an additional way we can contribute toward their success and make a lasting impact on our university.”

The support of faculty and staff certainly has made a lasting impact on Gerard Roberson. The UM-Dearborn senior was uncertain how he’d pay for college, but with the support of scholarships and financial aid, Roberson soon will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional studies.

“It brings me to the realization that it’s not just me who’s invested in my education,” said Roberson, a member of the university’s Student Philanthropy Council. “It really shows how much the faculty and staff here at the university try to engage the students and show them that education is more than just about coming to class and being a good student. It’s also about making the extra effort, as an educator, to invest in a student’s education, and to actually show them that you care beyond just the classroom.”

Faculty & Staff Campaign gifts help fund scholarships, expand campus programs and update infrastructure. Faculty and staff are encouraged to give to any area of campus and can choose where they’d like to allocate their gift.

“I want you to feel really good about the impact that you’ve had on these students’ lives through your daily work, and I want you to have that same rich feeling of doing good when you make a gift to the Faculty & Staff Campaign,” said Mallory M. Simpson, vice chancellor for institutional advancement.

The goal of the Faculty & Staff Campaign is participation, and there are multiple ways to get involved, including payroll deduction and one-time gifts.
