New campus calendar launching

December 4, 2017

After hours on December 6, exciting changes will be made to the way UM-Dearborn showcases our events online.

The web services team is building a new events calendar. As a campus we will be able to share and promote more events more easily across the website and social media platforms. The calendar will also have better functionality and features built according to best practice along with research and testing conducted by the web services team this year. Input was solicited from many campus groups and representatives of key audiences.

What are the new features?

  • New, modern design optimized for different devices

  • Easy add to calendar and social sharing

  • Ability to add pictures and downloadable material to events

  • Ability to showcase the same event across the website without duplicating information, meaning once an event is added to the calendar, it can be tagged so it also appears on college and unit calendars

  • Integration with VictorsLink for student organization event promotion

  • Search by date range, keyword and/or filter (audiences, event types, perks and organizational units)

  • Showcase other events of interest through related events

What’s changing?

  • The campus calendar will be managed through Drupal, the university’s website content management system (CMS).

  • The individuals in your department who currently edit and publish website content will add and publish events to the calendar. Find your content editor.

  • Due to this restricted access, the role of event approvers within the software is no longer needed. (In the current system, anyone can add an event to the calendar but it will not show up unless it’s approved.)

  • Only events sponsored by UM-Dearborn will be added to the calendar.

What does this mean for me?

  • If you have an event you would like to add after the calendar launches, please contact your content editor.

  • Drupal editors will receive documentation and training on how to add events to the calendar and their pages.

When will this happen?

  • The new calendar is scheduled to launch after hours on Wednesday, December 6.
