Scholars Programs
University of Michigan-Dearborn is excited to announce new Chancellor’s and Dean’s Scholarship Programs to our incoming first year students. These programs offer partial to full tuition merit-based scholarships. However, these programs are more than just merit scholarships. They empower students through resources and support to reach their full potential and make an impact on the university, southeast Michigan, and the world beyond.
As an incoming first-year student, you have been selected based on your outstanding academic success, evidence of intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, communications skills, servant leadership, commitment to community, your sincere interest in personal growth, and a desire to invest your time, energy and talents to improve the lives of others.
In addition to receiving a merit scholarship, as a UM-Dearborn Chancellor’s or Dean’s Scholar, you have access to both programming and opportunities to support you on your journey:
- your scholarship
- excellent programming and opportunities for growth
- engagement with peers, faculty, and alumni, all of whom will support you in reaching your full potential
As a Chancellor’s or Dean’s Scholar, you will be a valuable contributor to the UM-Dearborn community, developing skills that are critical to making a positive impact in your community, your profession and the world.
Students who have been selected for these scholarships:
- Must have above a 3.50 GPA
- Must have completed a scholarship application demonstrating interest and achievement, which was reviewed by the selection panel
Applicants who were not selected as finalists for one of these scholarships will still receive full consideration for other, smaller merit-based scholarships.
- May 1 is also the enrollment deposit deadline; you are strongly encouraged to submit your deposit by this deadline to secure your scholarship (exceptions may be made for specific circumstances).
- Accept your scholarship offer; go to umdearborn.edu/accept for instructions
- Complete your virtual orientation and enroll in your courses at umdearborn.edu/admittedstudents
- We’ll be in touch as the Fall semester gets closer!
FAQs
With our commitment to affordability, many students who apply for financial aid may receive significant funding based on their family’s ability to pay as determined by the FAFSA. Students who are selected as Chancellor’s or Dean’s Scholars, and have already received funding to meet their full financial need, may have all or part of their scholarship funding become part of their overall institutional aid offer.
There will be various merit-based scholarships, ranging from $500 to full tuition. Since some students have access to additional institutional funding beyond this program, amounts offered will consider overall eligibility for institutional scholarships and grants, ensuring equitable access to funding to support getting students to their degree.
Our Chancellor’s Scholarship is renewable for a total of eight semesters of undergraduate study, provided students maintain a full-time status and 3.20 GPA. The Dean’s Scholarship and other merit scholarships awarded will require a 3.0 GPA for renewability.
As a Chancellor’s or Dean’s Scholar, you will participate in a range of programs and have access to special features, including:
- Meeting with the Chancellor/Dean
- Exclusive seminars and events
- Specialized career development support through our Experience + initiative
- Priority enrollment for classes
