Finding creative ways to help the community
The Donald Thomas Lico Endowed Scholarship supports student Hunter McCray as he pursues his interests and forms his future career plans.
Junior Hunter McCray chose to attend UM-Dearborn to stay close to home and to take advantage of the professional programs offered. He has seized opportunities to make the most of his time at the university and develop his leadership skills, including through his involvement in Student Government and his role as Marketing Lead for UM-Dearborn’s Formula SAE Electric Racing team.
McCray also chose his areas of study--Supply Chain Management and Robotics Engineering--because he says they “will help serve as a tool for my current passions and hobbies and interests.” The subjects are both enjoyable and practical because they allow him to “be creative, additionally future-proofing my career.”
During his time at UM-Dearborn, McCray says two teachers in particular have made a major impact on him and encouraged him as he pursues his studies. Business Writing & Rhetoric Lecturer Pamela Todoroff and Math Lecturer Jeffrey Igo “were extremely influential and always went out of their way to help me understand concepts,” he says.
Another source of support for McCray was the Donald Thomas Lico Endowed Scholarship. “The scholarship helped me to afford tuition and help me reach my goals of helping the community and looking forward to the future,” he says.
As he continues to work towards completing his degree and gaining more experience and skills in his field, McCray is beginning to think more about what comes next. “My future career plans would be to either work for a large corporation or start my own business at an independent firm,” he says.
