Instructional Faculty Guidelines for Student or Faculty (Personal) COVID Cases
Before coming to campus everyone is required to complete the ResponsiBLUE daily health screening. If after answering the daily health screening questions you receive a red X please do not come to campus and follow the prompts in ResponsiBLUE. If you received the red X because you are required to complete COVID testing, you may come to campus to visit the testing and vaccination clinic and/or with documentation of your negative COVID test.
If you or the student is feeling ill or tests positive for COVID-19:
Student: If you learn of a student who is feeling ill or who has tested positive for COVID-19, please direct them to contact COVID student support at 313-593-5056 or email DearbornCOVIDsupport@umich.edu. The phone line and the email address are staffed and monitored by Student Affairs, and the Dean of Students’ office is the central repository for student COVID concerns.
The Dean of Students’ office will reach out to the student and ask a series of questions regarding the onset of symptoms, when they tested positive, and/or when they were in close contact with the person recently diagnosed with COVID-19.
The Dean of Students’ office works collaboratively with the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to identify all potential close contacts and will contact the instructor and department chair. The Dean of Students’ office will consult with OEM, the College Dean, and other leaders to determine if any additional action needs to be taken.
Faculty/Lab Instructors In-person: If you feel too ill to teach or test positive for COVID-19, you are to immediately notify your discipline/department chair and Human Resources at 313-593-5190.
Faculty Fully Remote: If you start feeling ill or test positive for COVID-19, you are to immediately notify your discipline/department chair and Human Resources at 313-593-5190. If you are not feeling ill and can continue to teach, please feel free to do so at your discretion. If you are too sick to continue your remote instruction, please notify your discipline/department chair and Human Resources.
Official notification on any implications for your class will come from the College Dean and/or Provost.
If you have had close contact or are living with someone recently diagnosed with COVID-19:

Faculty and Staff: Please contact Human Resources at 313-593-5190 or HumanResourcesDearborn@umich.edu.
If individuals are fully vaccinated and have no symptoms they do not have to quarantine but in 3-5 days from exposure they will be advised to get a PCR test. If test is positive they must isolate. For 14 days individuals will be advised to monitor for symptoms; if symptoms develop, they must isolate and get a PCR test as soon as possible.
