A Message from the Dean: September 2022

Martin Hershock

Dear CASL Colleagues,

Welcome back to campus! I hope that you all had a restful, yet productive, summer and that you are excited for the new academic year. It has been truly wonderful to see so many students and faculty and staff colleagues back on campus! I doubt that any of us will ever take that for granted again.

Among the many important things that the college, and the campus at large, will be focusing our attention on this year is mental health. While many are excited to finally be back in their offices and labs or to be physically standing in front of their students again, we know that many of us (along with many of our students) are also feeling very anxious, worried, or unsettled; sometimes all at the same time. Please know that you are not alone in these feelings and that there are resources available to help you (FASCCO being foremost among them). I would urge all of us to be mindful of both our individual mental health needs as well as those of our colleagues and our students and to continue the culture of support that we’ve built up during the pandemic. Please watch for more information and for opportunities to learn more about managing stress, anxiety, and work/life balance in the coming weeks.

I wish you all a very successful 2022-2023 academic year!

Martin Hershock, Dean
