 Important Reminder: New deadline policy effective Jan. 6.

 The new university-wide deadline policy will be enforced effective January 6, 2020. The UM Office of Research & Sponsored Projects (UM-ORSP) in Ann Arbor will no longer approve proposals for submission without review. Proposals must reach UM-ORSP no less than 2 full business days prior to the submission deadline for review and guaranteed submission by the sponsor deadline. Proposals that reach UM-ORSP less than 2 full business days prior to the submission deadline are AT RISK of not being approved or submitted if UM-ORSP is unable to review due to prioritized timely proposals. The UM-Dearborn Office of Research Administration will endeavor to help you get your proposal package submitted on time. Please contact us for more information.

UM-Dearborn Office of Research Administration Staffing Update

Please join the Office of Research Administration in welcoming our new staff member, Michael Hudson. Michael will join ORA on December 18, and comes to us from the Randall Business Office in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) in Ann Arbor where he has worked as a Contract & Grant Specialist for just over two years. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Valley State University, an Master of Public Administration from the University of Michigan, and is currently a law student at Wayne State University. Michael will provide pre-award support to the campus by assisting with budget and proposal development as well as preparation and submission of grant application packages. He will also help coordinate and administer the Campus Grants program, and provide general research administrative support to the campus. We are delighted to have Michael as part of our team and encourage you to stop by our offices in IAVS to say hello and introduce yourself!

Proposals for the following programs are accepted throughout the fiscal year as long as funding remains available and can be found on our CAMPUS GRANTS Webpage at this link

Grants for Faculty: 

Faculty Research Mini Grant - provides up to $800 for non-salary resources that enable faculty research and other scholarly activities.

Faculty Proposal Development Travel provides up to $750 in support to faculty for domestic travel, hotel, and per diem to discuss a proposal or concept with a sponsor's program officer.

Faculty Research Publication and Dissemination - provides up to $300 per year for peer-reviewed scholarly publication costs.

Lecturer Research Travel - provides up to $300 per person are provided to contribute to the costs of traveling to professional meetings to present papers based on research conducted at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Faculty Research Copy Editing Support - provides up to $200 per year for copy editing peer-reviewed scholarly publications, limited to editing required by publisher. Applicant must secure a match of $1 for every $2 of ORSP-Dearborn requested funds.

Grants for Students:

Graduate Student Independent Research - provides up to $2,500 for independent research projects conducted by UM-Dearborn graduate students as a part of a course for credit and supervised by a faculty member.

Undergraduate Student Independent Research - provides up to $500 for independent research projects conducted by UM-Dearborn undergraduate students as a part of a course for credit and supervised by a faculty member.

Student Conference Presentation - provides up to $300 for travel-related expenses and/or $40 for presentation materials per student toward costs of traveling to regional and national professional meetings to present papers based on research conducted at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.   

Campus Grants Application Submission via InfoReady

All Campus Grants applications must be electronically submitted through our online system. If you have not had a chance to use the InfoReady system, instructions on how to log in and update your profile, and submit a proposal will assist you. Please note the following:The system will not accept applications after 5:00 pm on the deadline date

  • Complete proposals will be electronically routed to for Faculty Advisor, Chair, and Dean approval by ORSP (as required) 

  • You must log in as a UMich User and authenticate

  • You must update your profile and Add Primary Organization to be eligible to submit a proposal

At their November 26, 2019 meeting, the Research Support Committee of the Faculty Senate reviewed 16 applications and awarded 12 peer reviewed campus grants totaling $99,735 to UM-Dearborn faculty in the following categories:

Research Initiation & Development – provide financial support for faculty research projects designed to lead to a proposal for external funding with a strong potential of being awarded.

UM-Dearborn Scholars – provide financial support for faculty research and scholarship, including creative activities in the arts, for projects with funding needs not addressed by other support programs within or outside the University.

CASL Faculty Summer Research – provide financial support for CASL faculty summer projects that lead to a tangible scholarly outcome.

CASL Tenured Faculty – provide financial support for projects that lead to a tangible scholarly outcome.
