Regents' Roundup - July 2019
The Regents' meeting on July 18, 2019 took place on the U-M Ann Arbor campus.
Chancellor Domenico Grasso shared news of his participation in the U-M Club of Greater Detroit’s panel discussion in June. Grasso joined U-M Deans Elizabeth Birr Moje and Alec D.Gallimore in discussing the university’s impact and collaboration in the city of Detroit.
Updates regarding this fall’s Thought Leader sessions were shared, as were UM-Dearborn’s new master’s programs in cybersecurity and information assurance, marketing, and public administration and policy. The The Regents also acknowledged with profound sadness the death of Robert Little, professor of mechanical engineering, CECS. Little died on May 25, 2019.
The Regents approved the personnel actions below.
New appointments and promotions for regular associate and full professor ranks, with tenure:
Sven Morgan, chair, department of natural sciences, and professor of geology, with tenure, CASL.
Reappointments of regular instructional staff and selected academic and administrative staff:
Jonathan Smith, chair, department of behavioral sciences, CASL, effective July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2022 (also professor of English language and literature, with tenure).
Joint or additional appointments or transfers of regular associate or full professors and selected academic and administrative staff:
Jonathan Smith, professor of behavioral sciences, without tenure, CASL, effective July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2022 (also chair, department of behavioral sciences, and professor of English language and literature, with tenure).
College of Engineering and Computer Science
Shengquan Wang, reappointment, three-year term, September 1, 2019 through August 31, 2022.
