Regents update: March 2019

Chancellor Domenico Grasso provided a campus strategic planning update to the U-M Board of Regents during the board’s March meeting.

“One of my objectives as chancellor was to begin a campus strategic planning process [and] I am happy to report this process has begun,” he said.

He shared that a team of faculty and staff are close to completing an environmental scan of both internal and external factors that will help inform future decision making. The campus community will then focus on five areas of strategic planning: student success, scholar teacher, staff development, efficiencies and university prominence. Work on the plan will begin in earnest later this spring.

Grasso also shared that the university hosted Olin College of Engineering President Richard Miller to share his insights and thoughts regarding the future of higher education. President Mark Schlissel will be on campus this week to share his thoughts on the future of higher education and the need for a creative growth mindset.

The items below were approved at the March 28, 2019, U-M Board of Regents meeting.
