Capital outlay request, new appointments, gift announcements and more highlights from the Dec. 6 Board of Regents meeting.

The items below were approved at the Dec. 6, 2018, U-M Board of Regents’ meeting.

Campus update:
UM-Dearborn will hold our fall commencement ceremony on campus, Saturday, Dec. 15. There are nearly 700 degree candidates, and we will confer over 700 degrees.

Emily Kolinski Morris, the chief economist at Ford Motor Company, will serve as the keynote speaker. Emily earned her B.A. in economics and international studies from UM-Dearborn and a Ph.D. in economics from UM-Ann Arbor.

Establishing and renaming professorships and selected academic and administrative and positions:
Correction to the criteria for a collegiate professorship, Richard E. Czarnecki Collegiate Professorship I, College of Business, effective November 1, 2018.

Correction to the criteria for a collegiate professorship, Richard E. Czarnecki Collegiate Professorship II, College of Business, effective November 1, 2018.

Correct criteria: The professorship recognizes a distinguished faculty member in the COB who exemplifies the core values of public service and trust, and is a distinguished teacher who can carry on Professor Czarnecki’s strong legacy of teaching excellence.

The following memorials were recognized and approved:
Adoption of memorial statements for Bruce Elenbogen, Ph.D., associate professor of computer and information science, CECS; and Elsayed Orady, Ph.D., professor of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering, CECS.

The Regents reviewed all three campus Fiscal Year 20 state of Michigan capital outlay requests. UM-Dearborn submitted the Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship, and Artistry Laboratory at the Mardigian Library. This renovation project would improve student access, provide a technology-rich learning environment, and would update infrastructure, address deferred maintenance and reorganize spaces in this 37-year-old building. The estimated cost of this project is $45 million.
