UM-Dearborn receives more than 500 gifts during Giving Blueday 2018
Gifts totaled over $100,000, a more than 50 percent increase in gifts from last year.
Giving Blueday 2018 was the biggest year yet for UM-Dearborn. Hundreds of people donated to UM-Dearborn, attended a Giving BREWday event or shared their stories on social media. Initial results show that donors gave more than 500 gifts totaling over $100,000 to support UM-Dearborn, a more than 50 percent increase in gifts from last year's event.
Twenty student groups and teams benefited from donor generosity. This year's most successful student campaign was the Iraqi American Student Union. They collaborated to raise more than $3,300 from nearly 100 donors. They were followed by Baseball, iLabs, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), and the Intelligent Systems Club (ISC) for the top five participating student organizations.
The UM-Dearborn Athletics Department hosted an incredible crowd to support student-athletes and their teams at Bailey's of Dearborn. There, Accounting and Finance Associate Professor Kirk Philipich matched gifts to support student-athletes, and trivia teams battled for three hourly winnings of $500 to go toward the sports team of their choice.
The Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) alumni affiliate hosted and sponsored Giving BREWday events at Dearborn Brewing and River Rouge Brewing Company in Royal Oak. For three years, the owners of Dearborn Brewing, John and Sheila Rucinski, and their staff have warmly welcomed our Giving BREWday guests and supported the university through giving. Ed Stencel (B.A. '88) and River Rouge Brewing Company joined Giving BREWday this year and supported UM-Dearborn students with a dollar from every pint sold going to scholarships.
