The artistic works of two University of Michigan-Dearborn students now are on display in the Anderson House Office Building, home to the Michigan House of Representatives. Art by English majors Jennifer Griffin and Tess Phaneuf was selected for Art in the House, a partnership between the Michigan Association of State Universities and the Michigan House of Representatives to promote art in everyday life.
Both artists and their families traveled to Lansing earlier this month to see their artwork on display.
“I’m completely honored that my artwork was chosen,” Phaneuf said. “The ceremony in Lansing was exciting, and I’m glad that I was able to be a part of it.”
Griffin’s untitled circus-themed piece is a scanogram—a composition of several images scanned and combined through Photoshop. Her artwork was chosen as the official image for the art show and appeared on the show’s invitations and program covers. Phaneuf’s piece, “Imploding Garden,” is an acrylic painting on Bristol board.
Both submissions were created in fine arts courses taught by Julie Lambert, lecturer III, who encouraged the students to submit their pieces for the competition.
“UM-Dearborn has an amazing and progressive Fine Arts Department that offers a wide range of creative opportunities,” Griffin said. “I am privileged not only to be a part of this event, but also to further promote our university.”
