College of Business, Crain's Detroit Business raise awareness of financial literacy with 'UM-Dearborn Investment Challenge'

The College of Business has partnered with Crain's Detroit Business to launch the UM-Dearborn Investment Challenge, a year-long simulated stock investment and trading competition that offers valuable hands-on experience to participants in their efforts to pursue financial literacy.

The Challenge, which is free and open to the public, will test the investment knowledge and skills of 1,000 registered participants by having them manage a $1 million mock portfolio for a chance to win $2,500 in real money each quarter. The contest will award prizes to the top portfolios as determined by total and risk-adjusted rate of return.

Those interested in participating should register by July 4 to enter the 3rd quarter challenge which begins on July 5.

Employees, faculty and staff of Crain Communications, Inc., University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, University of Michigan-Dearborn, University of Michigan-Flint, StockTrak, Inc., ePrize, LLC, and their parent and affiliate companies as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings and children) and household members of each such employee are not eligible. The contest is made possible by COB's Betty F. Elliott Initiative for Academic Excellence, a multi-year and multi-disciplinary program that focuses on topics critical to the growth of our region and state. Financial literacy is the theme for 2011-12 academic year.
